Happy Birthday America! (aka 4th of July)

When you think of 4th of July you usually think of sun, backyard BBQ's, fireworks, family and the list goes on. Well we weren't about to let the lack of sun stop us from enjoying the rest of that list. We started a little fire early in the afternoon to help keep us warm and we still got to eat good BBQ, play some backyard games and enjoy the fireworks.
Grandma and Grandpa Peterson and Uncle Joel came over to spen the afternoon and evening with us. We had to wear sweatshirts and sweaters but we were set on spending the day outside.

Blake's first Fourth of July. Last year I was SUPER pregnant and ready to meet him. This year we were wondering how he would do. He didn't love the fireworks, but he was able to sleep right through them when he went to bed.

backyard exploring. "Hey Amber, whatcha doin?"

Ladder golf. Joel pretty much won everything that evening -- ladder golf and darts. But dad and I ruled at Bocce Ball :)

Caden got out his bubbles and put on a show.

What a silly boy he is!

Caden is deathly afraid of fireworks. At least he has been in years past. This year he told us, "I won't be afraid of thunderworks this year!" Pat even took Caden with him when he went shopping for the fireworks thinking maybe he might be more excited to see them then. Well, we weren't surprised (knowing Caden) when he proved to still be deathly afraid of fireworks, but we were surprised when he said he would hold a sparkler, but only for a second.

He did enjoy watching the fire

and roasting smores....

and eating smores. YUM!

Hanging out around the fire! This is where we were most of the afternoon and we all smelled like campfire to prove it.

Blake isn't super cuddly, but we figured out how to get a hug from him. Just hold him while someone else lights off a firework. It looks something like this!

While Caden has to hide behind someone.

Once darkness came Bonney Lake was alive with fireworks. So we sat at the top of our street and watched them go off all around us while both boys slept through it all.
